Goodbye Rach.....for now
The band are very sad to have to say goodbye to our Solo Baritone player Rachel Crabb, as she heads off to University at Wolverhampton to study towards her dream of being a Midwife.
Rach joined the band for a short spell after the Regionals this year, where she competed with St. Pinnock, and was a key player for our first 2 contests at Bugle in June, and at Exmouth in September.
We wish Rach all the best, and are sure that she will be back with us one day, once she completes her Midwifery degree.
Roche Brass were crowned champions for the 2nd time in a week after winning the St. Austell Band Golf Tournament on Saturday 14th September.
A huge congratulations to Rob Rogers, Rob Jose, Rob Commons, and Andy Mitchell who did Roche Brass proud, and a big thank you to St. Austell Band for hosting the event.
Exmouth Entertainment Contest Champions 2013!
Roche Brass made their first appearance at the Exmouth Entertainment Contest on Saturday 7th September and picked up the Best Band of the Day, Best 1st Section Band, Best Percussion Section, and Best Soloist of the Day!
The Band played a very challenging programme which included 'Supreme Command, Amazonia, He ain't Heavy He's my Brother, Malaguena, Irish Blessing, Birdland, and Eve of the War'.
The whole band played exceptionally well, and a special mention has to go to Mark Letcher for his very classy performance of 'He ain't Heavy He's my Brother', which won him the best soloist prize, and to Ben Martin, Kenny Couch, and Justin Carter for picking up the Best Percussion Section.

Thank you again Roche Parish Council!
Roche Carnival and Last Night of the Proms
The band were delighted to lead Roche Carnival this year for the very first time, and look forward to many more years doing the same.
This year was also the first time Roche has ever had a Last Night of the Proms concert, which was hosted by Roche Brass. The evening was supported fantastically by the village, and the audience were in full voice for the traditional proms pieces.
We were very lucky to welcome Karen and Bromley Hurn as guest vocalists for the evening, who were both superb!
We would like to say a big thank you to the Roche Victory Hall for hosting the evening, and to all the helpers that made the night very special, serving strawberries & cream, pasties, drinks, doing the raffle, and also to the sound and lighting guys, who helped to create a brilliant atmosphere.
The band have already booked up the date for next year, which will be on Saturday 2nd August 2014!
Roche Hall Education Trust
We would like to say a big thank you to the Roche Hall Education Trust who have very kindly donated another £500 to the youth band, which is much appreciated.
West of England Bandsmen's Festival
9 months since the first rehearsal and Roche Brass took to the contest stage for the first time at the West of England Bandsmen’s Festival at Bugle.
Having entered the Championship Section despite still being ungraded, we knew that we would be up against tough competition in the likes of St. Dennis, St. Austell, and Egham.
Thanks to the hard work of all the players, and in particular the Musical Director Simon Badge, the band put in a very solid performance of both the test piece English Heritage and the hymn tune Jerusalem, which were received very well by the audience.
The band came 3rd in both pieces, with St. Austell claiming 1st prize, St. Dennis 2nd, and Egham 4th. Everyone was delighted with our debut performance, and we are all now very much looking forward to the next one.
Well done to all the soloists who played magnificent, and also congratulations go to St. Austell on their 1st place.
The band are now preparing for their debut contesting performance at the West of England Bandsmen's Festival at Bugle on Saturday 15th June.
With just 3 rehearsals left, preparation is going well, and everyone is buzzing with excitement at the thought of walking onto the stage for the first time with the band.
Good luck to everyone taking part in the contest, and fingers crossed that the rain holds off!
We would like to thank Driveline GB Ltd for the donation of a van to use over the busy period leading up to Bugle Contest. Your support is very much appreciated. Thank you!
