May 2015

Roche make the Cutt

Roche Brass are delighted to formally announce the appointment of Garry Cutt as their Musical Advisor.

Garry lead the band to victory in the 1st Section of the West of England Bandsmen’s Festival in 2014, and again at the West of England Regionals in March to secure a place at the National Finals at Cheltenham in September.

The band also gained victory at the Exmouth Entertainment Contest in 2014 under their Resident Musical Director Lee Clayson, so are now the current holders of 3 separate titles.

Band Manager, Richard Hawkey said ‘this is a magnificent capture for the band and we are all really looking forward to working with Garry on a more regular basis over the next few years. Garry’s experience and knowledge will be invaluable to the band as we continue to progress. The band have only been together for 2 and a half years, but are already making massive strides and currently hold the titles of West of England Bandsmen’s Festival 1st Section Champions, Exmouth Entertainment Contest Champions, and now West of England Regional 1st Section Champions!’

The formal link up with Garry is a very exciting one for the band and one that they hope will last for many years to come. Garry will work alongside the bands Musical Director Lee Clayson in preparing the band for contests and also act as an advisor for the bands general musical activities. Due to other prior commitments, Garry is unable to lead the band to the West of England Bandsmen’s Festival at Bugle and the National Finals this year, but has played an important role in securing the services of David Hirst for Bugle and Tom Davoren for the Nationals.

Musical Director, Lee Clayson added ‘Garry is one of the most respected and successful conductors in the brass band genre and we’re delighted to make his connection with the band more formal.  With his experience, and the ability and commitment being demonstrated by the players in the band, we are looking to build on the successes achieved over the last 12 months.   The next stage of the bands development is looking very exciting!‘

On his appointment, Garry Cutt stated ‘I am delighted to put this on a more formal basis, working with Lee and the Band to add to the stability and future of the organisation. ‘

The band are now very much looking forward to working with David Hirst in preparation for the West of England Bandsmen’s Festival in June and under Tom Davoren for the National Finals in September.

The band will now be representing the West of England, along with 2nd placed Yeovil Town at the National Finals in Cheltenham in September.

A massive thank you to Garry Cutt and our resident Musical Director Lee Clayson for preparing the band and making this fantastic achievement possible. It was a double success for Lee who also guided Soundhouse Brass to a win in the 3rd Section on the same day!
