Percussion - Kenny Couch

Kenny started playing with the Breage and District Band at the age of 10 and his first taste of contesting was at the CBBA Contest in 1995.

 

After a brief spell at St. Ives Band under Chris Harris, Kenny joined Lanner and District Silver Band in 2004 under Stuart Chappell. During his time at Lanner, one of the highlights was when they came 2nd in the 1st Section areas and playing in the 1st Section National Finals, gaining promotion to the Championship Section.

 

In 2006 Kenny joined Camborne and got to play at the National Finals, playing Judges of the Secret Court.

 

2007 saw Kenny play with Kernow Concert Brass before joining St. Keverne in 2008 where he played at the Yeovil Entertainment Contest before taking some time out from playing for a few years, apart from a guest contest appearance with Gweek in 2011 at the CBBA Contest.

 

In 2013, Kenny came out of retirement with Hayle Band and later joined Roche Brass in August 2013.

Percussion - Simon Oliver

Simon was born in Peterborough. Before moving to Greater Manchester Simon played percussion for Stamford Brass, National Methodist Youth Brass Band.

 

In 2009 Simon moved to Salford to study at the University gaining a First-Class honours Bachelor’s degree in Music and claimed the Roy Newsome Conducting Award in 2012. Since graduating from his degree Simon was appointed a conductor for the The National Methodist Youth Brass Band, and conducted a recording session for the BBC drama ‘The Village’.

 

While working with Offbeat Publishing Media Ltd. as a composer Simon has had many works performed at the many continental entertainment contests, such as Siddis, Butlins Mineworkers, Bolsover the National Youth Championships and UniBrass, and also at venues across Europe, Asia & the Americas.

 

As a player he is in demand and has performed and recorded with the Leyland Band, Faireys, Milnrow Band, Hammonds Saltaire, guest performed with Drogheda Brass Band winning the Irish Nationals in 2012 and was part of the Black Dyke Band, winning the British Open 2014, National Finals in 2014 and European Championships in 2015.

 

Following this success Simon spent some time helping out various high profile bands, and most recently, Simon spent 5 years with the Brighouse and Rastrick band winning the British Open in 2022, but took a step back from the movement after welcoming daughter Rosie into the world in 2024.
